Dust and Dirt
The most common problem is damage simply from dust, dirt and grit being trodden into the floor. This can be minimised with regular, careful dusting and vacuum cleaning, but it is unlikely that you will be able to eliminate it completely. Over time this forms a solid layer over floor tiles which is even more noticeable on hard floors polished to a high sheen, as the minute surface scratches dull the effect.
Discolouration
Etching refers to light or pale marks on the surface of the tile which are left behind after such a spillage. The acidity commonly found in food and drinks leaves long lasting stains on certain types of stone. This can be from a small patch of discolouration to covering several tiles, depending on the size of any spill.
Water Damage
In some cases, where the rock is more porous or the sealant has completely worn away, we find damage from water and other liquids. Therefore use of cleaning products and solutions needs to be carefully taken into account.
Grout
The join between tiles, filled with grout is the most vulnerable part of your floor, becoming a magnet for ground in dirt, staining and losing its protective seal.
