What is Limestone and Travertine

Limestone and Travertine are both formed by the settling of plants, seashells, sand, animal fossils and mud on the sea beds. In fact, with both of these types of stone you see often see actually imbed fossils. With Marble is created from the sedimentary stone Limestone or Travertine.

Travertine is a soft, porous limestone rock. It looks great when used for flooring and providing good care is taken it can stands the test of time. Usually Travertine has holes across its surface area, which sometimes may be filled with a type of resin. This can make it difficult to distinguish from limestone which has a naturally smoother surface. Like Marble, Limestone and Travertine are generally used for floors, walls, worktops or outside as cladding or pavement tiles. Unfilled travertine is also quite distinctive and beautiful, and is often seen as decorative flooring.
